This year in May, we will return over $570,000 by mailing 12,445 capital credit checks to members. Those dollars reflect the returns on electric use and margins from the energy used during 50% of 1985. The total returned in the past 13 years is about $9 million. The benefits of cooperative ownership are obvious when margins like these are returned to the customer/owner.
In addition, last fall we sent a special capital credit disbursement of $12,000,000 to members for profits received for the 2006 sale of Hunt Technologies. This special allocation and distribution was sent to members who had service during our ownership in Hunt for the years 2001 through 2005.
Each year profits margins over and above our operating costs are allocated to our members' accounts in relation to the amount of electricity they use. When the financial position of the cooperative allows, the board directs the distribution of those credits in the form of cash.
